Social Media has been awashed with visual display and speculations about the status of two members of Parliament who are suspected to have tested positive for COVID-19. This come at back of news in the media reporting unease calm among both the Majority and Minority in Parliament over whether some members have tested positive for COVID-19.
The Minority Chief Whip, Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka has revealed that some parliamentarians and 13 staff have tested positive for COVID-19.
Reacting to the media briefing by the Majority Leader and Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, Hon Muntaka said, the infected persons were informed of their status after the Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon. Aaron Mike Oquaye directed mass testing of all members and staff of the house last week.
He said, one cannot stop to reason why Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu and the Director of Public Affairs, Kate Addo could come out with a lie that, no one tested positive for COVID-19 when they perfectly know the statement they were carrying perverts the truth.
Hon. Muntaka also made it known that the infected MPs have been isolated while contact tracing is underway.
It is however being circulated on social media the Member of Parliament for Afutu and Akropong have tested positive for COVID-19.
Meanwhile, the Speaker of Parliament has said it is within the right of the lawmakers to inform the public about their personal status if they wish so.
