President John Mahama officially launches the “Feed Ghana Programme” in Techiman to revolutionize agriculture, improve livelihoods, and strengthen national food security under Hon. Eric Opoku’s leadership.
Techiman, Bono East Region — In a major step toward food sustainability and economic empowerment, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic, officially launched the highly anticipated Feed Ghana Programme today in Techiman, the capital of the Bono East Region.
The initiative is spearheaded by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture under the stewardship of Hon. Eric Opoku and is expected to significantly boost food production, improve farmer livelihoods, and secure long-term food stability across the country.
A Vision Rooted in Agriculture and Livelihood Empowerment
The Feed Ghana Programme reflects a bold national vision of leveraging agriculture as a cornerstone for inclusive development. It is built around key pillars such as:
- Modernized farming techniques
- Access to agricultural financing
- Youth involvement in agribusiness
- Improved storage and distribution systems
- Local production for national consumption
Speaking at the launch, President Mahama emphasized that food security is not just an economic goal but a national priority. “We cannot industrialize our economy or reduce poverty without ensuring that every Ghanaian has access to affordable, nutritious food produced locally,” he stated.
Techiman: Strategic Hub for the Agricultural Revolution
Known as one of Ghana’s largest food distribution centers, Techiman was a symbolic and strategic choice for the program’s official rollout. Farmers, agricultural workers, students, and local leaders gathered in large numbers to witness what many are calling a new era in Ghanaian agriculture.
Hon. Eric Opoku reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to delivering on the objectives of the program. “We are not just feeding Ghana—we are creating jobs, empowering rural communities, and building an economy that works for everyone,” he said.
A Foundation for Ghana’s 24-Hour Economy
The Feed Ghana Programme also aligns with President Mahama’s broader 24-Hour Economy agenda by laying the groundwork for sustainable food supply chains that support industry, trade, and export markets. It is expected to attract investment and reduce Ghana’s dependence on food imports.
A Nation Rises with Its Farmers
The launch marks the beginning of large-scale implementation activities, including training sessions, distribution of improved seedlings, mechanization support, and policy engagement with farmer associations.
With this ambitious program now officially underway, Ghana is positioning itself as a self-sustaining agricultural powerhouse in the region.
