Ferdinand | PoliticsGhana | April 29 | Kennedy Agyapong and Abronye DC in Heated Exchange During NPP “Thank You” Tour
Kennedy Agyapong and Abronye DC spar during the NPP “Thank You Tour,” revealing internal tensions as the party seeks unity after its 2024 election defeat
Prominent New Patriotic Party (NPP) figures Kennedy Ohene Agyapong and Abronye DC clashed publicly during the party’s nationwide “Thank You Tour” in the Western Region. What was intended as a unifying gesture after the NPP’s defeat in the 2024 elections instead exposed lingering tensions within the party ranks.

Abronye DC used the platform to criticise certain party members whom he accused of sabotaging his campaign efforts. He expressed bewilderment that those who had undermined him were now calling for reconciliation and peace.
In response, veteran MP Kennedy Agyapong stressed his commitment to party unity but did not mince words. For the sake of peace, he said, he would not retaliate. Yet he pointedly observed that many of those now seeking harmony “were not even qualified to visit my house,” a remark underlining his frustration. Agyapong further noted that he had contributed far more financially to the party than those “talking anyhow,” implying that true loyalty should be measured by action, not words.
This public exchange highlights the deep fissures that emerged in the wake of the NPP’s electoral loss.
While the “Thank You Tour” aims to heal divisions and rally supporters ahead of 2028, the debate between Agyapong and Abronye DC suggests that reconciliation will require more than ceremonial gestures.
Grassroots members and senior executives alike will need to address grievances, acknowledge contributions, and rebuild trust if the party is to present a united front in future contests.
