0

The presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr John Dramani Mahama, has promised to build modern training centers to update the skills of garage owners to keep them in business.

Addressing artisans and garage owners in Tuobodom in the Techiman North constituency on Saturday as part of his three-day tour of the Bono East Region, Mr Mahama said the next NDC government will promote the development of industrial parks for garage owners and workers.

He said fully equipped industrial parks with diagnostic centres and other modern facilities for vehicle maintenance will be developed to train garage operators on the maintenance of cars with new and improved technology.

Mr Mahama says given the rapid deployment of new technologies in vehicles, it is imperative that garage owners and workers are given the needed training to make them relevant for their industry to keep them in employment.

“So, we are going to collaborate with the Eureka Garages Association, Suame Magazine Industrial Development Organisation in Kumasi and all other garage associations in the country to build the training centres with the modern diagnostic machine to train their members and be able to stay in business”, he added.

Mr Mahama also said the government will engage master artisans such as masons, carpenters, fashion designers, hairdressers, and seamstresses, among others, and pay the apprenticeship fees of all those who are willing to train under them in the various vocations. Those who complete the government-sponsored apprenticeship training, he said, will be provided the needed tools to enable them also set up their own businesses.

Mr Mahama therefore urged electorates to vote for him and the NDC in the December 7, 2020 general elections to enable the party to fulfill its promises to the people of Ghana.

“The Akufo-Addo government has not got a track record; not in healthcare, we built hospitals, they have none; not in tertiary education, we built universities, they have none; not in the roads sector, we built roads, they have declared a year of roads without roads; not in fighting corruption, we fought corruption head-on; President Akufo-Addo fights those who fight corruption in his government. The case of Auditor General Daniel Domelevo is proof that corruption is fighting the president” he wrote.

BE CAUTIOUS, BE BOLD, AND HAVE HOPE! A MESSAGE FROM JOHN MAHAMA

Tomorrow, Monday 21st September marks the birthday of Ghana’s Founder and first President, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah. He was an iconic figure in the independence struggle and the liberation of many African countries.

Dr Kwame Nkrumah was an inspiration to many countries around the world. On this day, I want to salute him for his tireless and monumental contribution to our nation’s history.

Finally, I come before you this morning with a triple invitation: be cautious, be bold and have hope!

Be cautious when you read articles on social media, because, unfortunately, today we are living in the age of fake news. It is now too easy to take something false as the truth. There is sometimes a big difference between what someone really did, and what people are made to believe he or she did.

They say, for instance, that during my first term as President I was a poor manager of our economy. Some of you may have been made to believe this false story. However, when you look at the data, things look different.

In 2012, the size of Ghana’s economy was 41.6 billion dollars. In 2016, on my watch as president it was 54.5 billion dollars – a nominal change of 13 billion dollars in 4 years.

This year, 2020, on the watch of Akufo-Addo as president, Ghana’s economy is projected to be somewhere 66 billion dollars, which means the NPP government in four years changed the size of the economy by 11 billion dollars – note in 4 years; 13 billion dollars under my watch and 11 billion dollars under NPP. This is what the data says, and it is verifiable. You can examine the data for yourselves.

This government has meanwhile borrowed GH¢140 billion as against GH¢56 billion during my presidency.

The Akufo-Addo government has not got a track record; not in healthcare, we built hospitals, they have none; not in tertiary education, we built universities, they have none; not in the roads sector, we built roads, they have declared a year of roads without roads; not in fighting corruption, we fought corruption head on; President Akufo-Addo fights those who fight corruption in his government. The case of Auditor General Daniel Domelevo is proof that corruption is fighting the president.

This is why I invite you to be cautious.

But I also invite you to be bold. Imagine, for instance, that, today Ghana had the digital infrastructure allowing people to work easily from home, like they do in countries like South Korea or Denmark. The Covid-19 pandemic would have certainly had a lesser impact on our economy.

Imagine a Ghana where all this is possible, where new types of services and new types of jobs allow people to live decent lives. Imagine a 21st Century Ghana! If you would, you won’t settle for “good enough” anymore. Instead, you would be asking for change in the way our country is led.

So, I’m telling you: have hope!

Our Manifesto, The People’s Manifesto, pledges that the new NDC government will help one million young Ghanaians to become coders and programmers – to become the backbone of the new economy we will build together for the benefit of all.

With one million young coders and a solid digital infrastructure, we will bridge the gap between our Ghana and the more advanced countries far sooner than you think now. Have hope!

And believe this hope is real! Because together with NDC we have already delivered. And if we delivered once, we are able to deliver again.

So, my brothers and sisters, be cautious, be bold and have hope! I guarantee you that the next NDC government will provide you with a clear and honest chance to live a decent life!

Be cautious, be bold, and have hope!

Jobs and Prosperity for all.

Thank you!

How Ghanaian romance scammer duped British granny of her £18,000, sex, others

A 68-year-old British woman has been revealing to the British Press about how a Ghanaian man in his thirties managed to fleece her of £18,000 and more despite the endless bouts of hot sexual intercourse in a well-executed romance scam.

Beth Haining, who retired having worked as a probation officer and social worker, thought that she had had enough experience not to fall for male fraudsters who come in the name of love.

However, when she met Rodney Cudjoe online, she instantly threw caution to the wind and fell head over heels in love. Her love was so strong that she ignored all pieces of advice against engaging foreigners in romantic relationships which were usually scams.

The first task of crafty Cudjoe was to get her to believe that she was truly loved by him and that he really cared about her. Cudjoe executed this with regular romantic calls, literally pestering her to give him a chance to love her.

The mother of two was soon convinced beyond doubt that she had met her real love since her divorce in the 70s. This was in 2014.

As the love continued to grow from strength to strength, Beth accepted to travel to Accra to meet Cudjoe. They had great sex, according to Beth.

And within five days, they were married, with many of Cudjoe’s supposed relatives in attendance.

By February 2017, Cudjoe flew to the UK to join his wife. He then intensified his demands for money which had begun earlier.

Unable to bear Cudjoe anymore, he had to fly back to Ghana, almost penniless.

But Beth is still licking her wounds, having spent £ 18,000 on the whole episode.

Beth is warning women, especially the elderly against the activities of unscrupulous scammers such as Cudjoe.

Disregard video claiming Opoku-Agyemang was rejected in Evalue Ajomoro Gwira – NDC

1

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Evalue Ajomoro Gwira Constituency has asked the general public to disregard a video asserting that the party’s vice presidential nominee, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, was not welcomed by the people of the constituency.

According to the Evalue Ajomoro Gwira Constituency of the NDC, the 15-second video cannot be a true reflection of a 4-hour programme that took place during the visit of Prof Opoku-Agyemang to the constituency.

In a statement issued and signed by its Constituency Communication Officer King Philip Anikloe, the Evalue Ajomoro Gwira Constituency NDC said the claim “by the ruling government propagandists” that Prof. Opoku-Agyemang “was not warmly welcomed in Axim, is a blatant lie and must be rubbished by all well-minded Ghanaians.”

The statement continued: “In my native Ewe language, there is a saying that a brainy liar usually tells lies among his spouse and his children, so that when he is queried/challenged by the wife, he will defend himself by justifying that at that time, he had not married her and when the children want to probe him, he will tell them they were also not born at the time”.

“This means that the NPP propagandists are not brainy in telling lies, hence, they are exposed by the videos in circulation at both TV stations and other media houses.

“How can a 15-second video cover the entire four-hour programme?”

The Evalue Ajomoro Gwira Constituency NDC continued: “Our Vice Presidential Candidate was given a rousing welcome by the good people of Axim” and empahasised that the 15-second video displayed by Accra-based Angel TV “cannot be the true reflection of the four-hour programme that took place in Axim.”

The statement added: “I am tempted to state that the individual or the group of persons who only showed the 15-second video to the general public at the expense of the four-hour programme are suffering from hallucination.”

The statement, therefore, entreated the “general public to disregard the 15-second video displayed by the NPP propagandists.”

It added: “They should bear in mind that the hearts of the people of Evalue Ajomoro Gwira Constituency to vote for His Excellency John Dramani Mahama and Kofi Arko Nokoe come 7th December 2020 cannot be bargained with this incompetent NPP government.”

Ho Airport will impact the local economy – Togbe Afede

0

Togbe Afede XIV, the Agbogbomefia of Asogli State, has noted that the use of the Ho airport would present a tremendous opportunity for the local economy.

He called on the people of the region to patronise the facility when operationalised.

Togbe Afede was speaking during a courtesy call on the chiefs of the Asogli state by the Executives of the Africa World Airlines.

He said the absence of a business case for the US$25 million-dollar facility caused its neglect, saying aside from the commercial flights, other services would make the airport essential.

He said the airport is “a very tremendous opportunity for the development of Ho, and that Asogli State attached much importance to the facility, having led efforts to commercialise it.”

The Agbogbomefia was grateful to the management of the airline for the interest.

He said an aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) operations and an aviation training school were among the possibilities being explored to realise the full economic potential of the airport.

“I want to thank you very sincerely for taking the time to come here to explore the possibility of AWA commencing commercial flight services to Ho. It is great news for us in the Region.

“We have planned to open up Ho for a long time now, just that the hold back has been that Government has not taken over the airport.”

“I am happy that the management of AWA is here today and has underscored their preparedness to fly to Ho. But of course, it’s all subject to commercial viability. I am happy my people have told me that they are willing to use AWA services,” Togbe Afede said.

He recounted emergencies in the region that was salvaged with the help of the airport and complimented proponents of the facility.

“I will like to pay tribute to those who promoted the idea of an airport in Ho and I will like to urge my people to make use of the airport so that its viability would never be in doubt, and so that it can bring other developments.

“You know the impact aviation can have on any community. It is a very tremendous opportunity for us to put Ho on the international market.

“We will continue to explore other opportunities to make the airport useful, most importantly an aviation training school, and also an aircraft maintenance facility. But these are all subject to us all here making the airport useful,” he said.

The Ho airport was completed more than three years but yet to be put to commercial use.

Captain Kwasi Oteng, Chief Safety Officer of AWA, confirmed the economic viability of the aviation business in the Municipality and said the airline would increase its route to cover the city once plans had been finalised.

Professor Ransford Gyampo, a Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana’s Political Science Department has opened up about his wife’s reaction to the “Sex for Grades” story which implicated him some months ago.

Professor Ransford Gyampo, who is also the Head of European Studies at the university, according to a BBC report allegedly proposed marriage to a “student” who was seeking academic favours.

In the video released on BBC, Professor Gyampo persuaded the reporter to meet him at the mall where he was caught on camera making “numerous [alleged] inappropriate demands.”

The Professor was subsequently suspended by the University of Ghana where he works and was subsequently cleared of any wrong doing by the school.

Speaking in a yet-to-be aired interview dubbed 21 minutes with KKB watched by MyNewsGh.com, Gyampo who sounded biblical indicated that his wife was not worried about the saga he was embroiled in.

According to him, she saw it as God’s way to get him more closer to him rather than a challenge and trying times.

He said, “she said she knew I wouldn’t do that and that it was God’s divine way of drawing me much closer to him.”

Election 2020: Anti-Muntaka NDC activist in Asawase constituency joins NPP

0

A known member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Asawase Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Murtala Mohammed, has defected to the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Prince Akuta, as he is affectionately known, announced his decision at a press conference on Thursday, September 17 which was heavily attended by the rank and file of the NPP at the Asawase enclave.

Murtala said his decision to cross carpet to campaign for the ruling party is motivated by the track record of the Akufo-Addo-led administration, especially in the Zongo Communities.

Citing the successes chalked during Hajj pilgrimage and the payment of Arabic tutors by the government, Murtala believes, a second term for the Akufo-Addo government could improve the lives of members of the Muslim community In Ghana.

“I am with full conviction that if Ghanaians renew the mandate of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, NPP will be better placed for everyone. I urged especially my Zongo sisters and brothers to work hard to ensure continuity of this administration for the betterment of the entire Ghanaian people”, he said.

The Anti-Muntaka campaign

The Asawase seat is one of three constituencies in the Ashanti Region occupied by the NDC in the ruling party stronghold.

Akuta, with his youthful exuberance, played a pivotal role in the 2016 elections as he campaigned massively for the sitting MP, Muntaka Mubarak.

In an interesting twist, however, the man who was elected a branch executive of the NDC at Aboabo campaigned vigorously for one Masawudu Mubarick — Muntaka’s only contender.

The decision to contest the Minority Chief Whip was shot down by the party sparking widespread agitation among the youth.

Prince Akuta, who is widely known on social platforms, has pledged to snatch the seat from the NDC.

Municipal Chief Executive for Asokore Mampong and Parliamentary candidate for Asawase, Alidu Seidu on his part, described the move as welcoming and timely.

“In 2016 I remember during our mini rallies, night rallies, one day we were at Asawase, by the time I got to Aboabo Number One, Akuta was there with his team, campaigning. When we left there, before I got to Adukrom Bola, he was there organizing another programme. So, I saw him as one of the guys who can torment our ways of doing things and our campaign, and he did the same thing.

“So on the basis of that, I know what he can do. So, if today he has joined us, we are more than excited to welcome him. That was why I called on him to put in the efforts he put when he was with the NDC in this our campaign, because like I said earlier, Asawase is now or never. With him, I strongly believe that our chances will be much brighter than before,” Alidu Seidu told the media.

He called on party members to embrace the new entrant as the party braces with time to win all 47 seats in the Ashanti region. Political parties have often been hit with mass defections in election years.

A deputy communications officer for the NDC Zongo Caucus, Awal Mohammed also joined the NPP prior to the 2016 polls. He is currently the Public Relations Officer for the Youth Employment Authority (YEA).
